Rustem
Gode, owner of Quad Cycles, ensures that his store
at 1346 Mass Ave., Arlington offers top quality equipment
and repairs combined with professional cycling advice.
Rustem's
passion for cycling began as a child where he quickly
jumped into the world of racing and bicycle maintenance.
As he pursued his love for the sport he later found
himself the mechanic for the Turkish International Racing
Team. The pressure of working for such a professional
outfit quickly developed his skills promoting him to
chief mechanic of the Turkish team. His position allowed
him to travel and experience cycling in many other countries.
Rustem
moved to the United States in 1989 and first worked
as a bike shop manager in the Cambridge area. In 1996
he joined with a partner and together opened another
bike shop in Cambridge. Rustem then bought a home in
Arlington and immediately fell in love with the community.
He sold his share of the Cambridge bike shop and opened
up Quad Cycles in April of 2000.
Rustem says, "Experience and service is what sets
us apart from other bike shops. I have learned much
in my travels throughout the international cycling community
and wish to transfer that knowledge and level of service
to everyone who comes into my shop."
When
young children come into the store, Rustem's eyes light
up. He loves their pure passion and excitement. In partnership
with the Arlington Bicycle Club and Quad Cycles Racing
team, Rustem is currently planning bike maintanence
and safety classes to help kids get the most out of
their cycling experience.
Rustem
is from the "old school" of cycling. From
a time when passion was the only card one had to play.
He loves people to come into the shop. Not just to buy,
but to hang out. On the second level of the Quad Cycles
shop is a lounge where at any given time you will find
one or more cyclists just sitting reading a magazine
or having some coffee. You will find members of the
racing team riding rollers or trainers in the store
just because they like being there. Come down to the
store and meet Rustem. Have some coffee and chat. You
will leave feeling like you got exactly what you needed
even if you didn't buy a thing.
Cyclists
Love Affair with Carlisle
Carlisle's winding country roads and rural pastures
and wooded land is a favorite destination for bicyclists
from all over. Indeed, on a pleasant weekend, Ferns
Country Store will host nearly 200 cyclists who welcome
our central location for a needed break for a sandwich,
fluid replenishment drink or energy bar.
What
you'll find at Ferns
A

Emergency
tire repair kits
Specialty
tools
A
"Courtesy Pump" for that bit of needed hot
air that Larry may not be able to provide (tho that'd
be unusual!)
Energy
Bars
Gu
High
energy snacks
Liquid
replenishments
Sandwiches
and cookies
And
of course, let's not forget the 'Johhny H' endorsed
Ferns Chili!
Share
the road
Ferns strongly advocates road courtesy by both vehicles
and cyclists. We ask cyclists traveling through our
town to follow the rules of the road including:
Ride
in single file
our roads are wicked narrow!
Talk
quietly
especially in the morning
voices
travel far!
Please,
please put your money in plastic baggies
money
drenched in sweat
is gross and wicked unsanitary!
When
at Ferns please use the bike racks we've provided
Help
stamp out 'adult graffiti'
Spray painting directions
on our roads is a form of graffiti
after your
ride is over, our rural roads are left with unsightly
spray painted cryptic symbols. Indeed, because so
many of our roads are deemed Scenic Byways, it's actually
illegal to paint on the roads! We urge bike groups
to get together and establish regular routes that
can then be marked with semi-permanent signs attached
to, say, phone poles. Working with our Town Pedestrian/Bicycle
Safety Committee could help facilitate such a process!
And
be sure to patronize Ferns
we appreciate your
business!
Please
note that per order of the Board of Health we have no
public restrooms OR public water supply. Plan ahead.
We appreciate your understanding our situation!
